St. Ignace - Page 3

Home Up

On Monday morning Dad & I walked across the bridge. Tyler wasn't feeling well due to his earache, and Sam decided not to go either. Tara couldn't walk because she had already been to the hospital once for pain related to the pregnancy and we didn't want to risk it. Mom decided that since she hasn't been working out this year that she didn't want to walk either. We did manage to make it across in an hour and fifteen minutes, but we would have been quicker had they not closed the walking down to one lane before we were able to finish.

Bridge Walk - September 4th

The view of the bridge from the drop-off point to start the walk. The view south as Gary & Rodney crossed I-75.
The view north prior to starting the walk. Looking at the bridge from the starting point.

Another view of the bridge with the walkers. A view down through the grating.

Dad walking on the bridge. More walkers on the bridge.

The "No Running" sign on the North Tower. A freighter ready to pass under the bridge.

The same freighter a little closer. A closer view of the "No Running" sign.

People standing on the South Tower. Zero traffic headed north - at this point I was a little nervous (I had never seen that before).

Looking up at the South Tower. The people congestion once the walk was confined to one lane.

One of the many Coast Guard ships present. Gary nearing the finish line.
We saw this camper and tow vehicle after we finished our walk. It was at our campground over the weekend as well. Pretty cool setup.

On our way home for the weekend, Tyler asked to stop at another gift shop/bridge view. We swung in for a quick walk around and to take a few pictures.

Bridge View Shop - September 4th

A view of the Mackinac Bridge from the viewing platform on top of the shop, with the golf course in the foreground.
