Monday, September 6th, marked the occasion of our 7th
Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk. Dad, Tara, Tyler, Drew, and I all made the walk
this year, finishing in 1 hour 35 minutes. Once again we started too late to
complete the entire walk with two lanes available to us, which contributed to
slowing us down some. Samantha really wanted to join us, but she had severely
sprained her ankle less than a week earlier (requiring a trip to the hospital
thanks to the enormous amount of swelling that occurred, and in a really strange
spot too). She probably could have walked across OK, but we didn't want her
hobbling for a month after doing so (her first soccer game is on September
11th).

line from the parking area where they were dropped off.

The crowd on the bridge.

Looking east from the bridge.

The four guys (and one of their friends who apparently chickened
out on the outfit) made the walk in short-shorts and tight shirts.
Looking down the grating at some of the bridge supports.
Tara, Drew, and Gary walking on the bridge just past the halfway
point.

Tara and Drew enjoying their brisk walk.

Tyler working hard to force a smile for the camera.

Another upward view of one of the towers...

...followed by a downward view of the tower.
The sun peeked through the clouds on occasion, as evidenced by
the sun spot on the water.
Somebody was brave enough to parasail this morning. Brrrrrr.
The US Coast Guard was on hand to protect the bridge.
There were spectators positioned atop the south tower.
Looking straight up the tower (well, almost straight up).
Pull over, we have you surrounded!
The boat in the middle was speeding towards the bridge when
three police/Coast Guard boats raced to stop him.
This would make a nice retirement home. That's right, it is not
a hotel/motel/bed and breakfast/inn. It is somebody's home.
The finish line!
