Home Up

While the kids were busy driving the boat, the first of two freighters we saw tonight passed by. We were amazed as we watched it push a wall of water as it headed off to the bridge behind us. Unfortunately our evening was coming to a end at this point...

Star Line Sunset Cruise

This freighter passed near our boat in Lake Huron as we headed back to Mackinac Island.

Somehow the kid in this shot managed to sneak in between Sam and Drew in getting a chance to drive the boat. Drew unfortunately had to wait a little bit before he was able to climb up for his turn at the ship's wheel.

Another look at the freighter as we approach each other.

The wall of water formed by the bow of the ship was quite impressive.

Another look at the entire freighter.

A look back from our boat as the giant 1,000 foot ship heads off to the Mackinac Bridge.

Another look at the freighter approaching the bridge.

Samantha, Tara, and Tyler were busy looking up the cost of a book being sold on the boat to see if we could get it cheaper elsewhere.

Drew was having fun laying on the seats, goofing off during our ride back as darkness set in.

One last look at the spray from our boat.

This was the second of the two freighters we passed tonight. It was getting too dark for a good picture by the time it had gotten close to us.

Throughout our time on the boat I was busy taking pictures (as if you couldn't tell), but I wasn't the only one. Tyler had borrowed the other camera and was busy taking pictures of his own. Here are some of his results...

The sun over the Mackinac Bridge.

A sailboat tooling through the water.

The spray as seen from the back of the boat.

A look back at the spray coming from the back of the boat, as seen from the top deck.

Drew smiling for the camera.

A look across the lake at the U.S. Coast Guard ice cutters, the current Mackinaw in the center of the photo and the retired Mackinaw to the right.

A look at the two Mackinaws.

Some cool looking windmills spinning over Mackinaw City.
