After a tough defeat to the Linden Eagles the first time
these two teams met, the Bronchos were looking for a little revenge today. In
the last game teams were allowed to play full court pressure defense for the
first time all season, and Linden came out playing that defense to near
perfection as Holly was unprepared. Despite facing some atrocious refereeing and
the pressure defense, the girls kept that game close before finally succumbing
to a 19-18 defeat. Today's game was expected to be another battle, as all
Holly-Linden games tend to be. Fortunately the Lady Bronchos came out ready to
play, jumping out to an early lead and holding on to it for an 8-0 lead after
the first quarter. The widened their lead heading in to halftime, holding a 16-1
lead. The girls continued to play hard in the second half, handling everything
that Linden threw at them, widening their lead once again to 25-5 after three
quarters. The girls never let up today, and by the time the final buzzer had
sounded they had a resounding 32-9 victory under their belts. The win left the
girls with a 7-5 record on the season, which likely should have been 8-4 or even
9-3 had they had some better luck with rebounding and shot making in a couple of
their games.
Samantha had one of her better games today, getting back
to her usual rebounding, stealing, ball handling self after a few off games. For
the first time all season she wasn't in the center circle for the opening tip
off, which I am sure didn't hurt her feelings any! She did manage to score 2
points, and probably should have had more as she missed a couple layups and 2
free throws as well. All of that was made up for by her pressure defense, as she
managed to steal the ball quite a few times (which led to her layup attempts,
some of which were contested, which explains the misses). She also rebounded
well today, despite being undersized at the center position by quite a bit.
