Drew and his FireCats teammates would need some help tonight in
order to end the scheduled part of the tournament in first place in
their division, but a win tonight would go a long way towards
helping themselves out. They would be taking on the Westmoreland
Eagles in the third and final game before the "playoffs" get
underway. Things started out tight for both teams, as neither had
much luck converting on their scoring opportunities. The two teams
went up and down the rink before Novi finally broke through, scoring
what would turn out to be the lone goal of the period. They would
head in to the second period up by a score of 1-0.
The second period definitely went the way of the FireCats, as
they applied continuous pressure on the Eagles defense, managing to
tack on to their lead with a four-goal outburst. The goals opened up
a big lead, and seemed to deflate the Eagles players a bit.
The third period resembled the first in that the pace of play
slowed quite a bit. After struggling through the first two periods,
it was the Eagles who got on the scoreboard first in the third,
ending the FireCats hopes of a shutout. Frustrated at giving up a
goal, the Novi team fought back to at least answer that goal,
reopening their 5 goal margin. That would be it for the scoring, and
the FireCats would earn their second victory, this one by a 6-1
score.
After a bit of a wait, the FireCats found themselves in third
place overall, and they would be facing off against the second place
Cheektowaga Warriors at 8:30am tomorrow morning. Go FireCats! |
