Drew and his Novi FireCats teammates faced off against the Belle
Tire team from Dearborn in their final game of the tournament in a
battle that would decide first place in their division and seeding
in tomorrows games. Thankfully the FireCats were up to the task.
Some untimely penalties left the FireCats shorthanded early, but
their penalty kill was more than up to the task - they wound up
scoring two shorthanded goals 19 seconds apart to take a 2-0 lead
with 4 minutes left. They were able to hold on to that lead until
the period ended. A quick goal in the second gave the FireCats a
3-0 lead. Belle Tire finally came up with an answer when they scored
a goal midway through the period. The 3-1 score stood into the final
frame.
Novi was ready for the final period today, scoring a goal less
than two minutes in to widen their lead. A power play goal two
minutes later expanded their lead to 5-1, before they closed out the
scoring at the halfway point to give them a 6-1 lead. That score
would carry through until the end of the game.
The FireCats finished the tournament at 3-0, earning the number
one seed in the process. They scored 17 goals in the three games,
while allowing a total of 6. They move on to the semifinals tomorrow
morning, facing off against the Lakeland Hawks. |
