This mornings game between the Novi FireCats and Lakeland Hawks
featured a battle of former teammates, as Drew would be on the ice
against his Lapeer Storm teammate Blake, who would be starting in
goal this morning. Unfortunately the Hawks got the quick jump on
the board today, scoring the opening goal a mere 16 seconds in.
Thankfully the FireCats didn't get down about giving up the early
goal, and the remainder of the period was a back and forth affair.
Neither team was able to score again, and the period ended with the
score at 1-0.
The second period did not go in favor of the FireCats however, as
the Hawks scored the only three goals - two of which were power play
goals. The period ended with the FireCats down by a score of 4-0,
and their hopes dimming.
Two more goals widened the Hawks lead even further before the
Novi team was able to break through, scoring a five-hole goal that
kept the game from being a shutout. Unfortunately there wasn't time
for a comeback, and that would be it for scoring from both teams.
The 6-1 loss eliminated the FireCats from advancing to the
championship game (which was later won by the Team Ohio team that
the FireCats beat on Friday). All in all it was a great weekend of
hockey, especially considering that they had never played a game
together until this tournament. Go FireCats! |
