Tonight's game was originally scheduled to be against the Jesuit
Tigers, but yesterday we found out that we would instead be playing
the Jenkins Eagles and the Jesuit game was postponed. Drew had a
prior commitment to his YMCA Leadership group with Jayden, so he
would only be playing in two periods today. Thankfully he did his
damage early today... The first period got off to a bit of a slow
start, but the opening tally of the game came in favor of the Ice
Sharks. A rebound off a teammates shot came right to the sweet spot
of Drew's stick, and he was able to flip a wrist shot past the
Jenkins goalie to give his team a 1-0 lead less than four minutes
into the game. Another four minutes passed before the next goal was
scored, this time by an Eagles player that skated through the Sharks
defense and slipped a backhand shot behind the Riverview goalie,
knotting the game at a goal apiece. At this point of the game, there
was only four shots on goal total! Allowing the goal seemed to fire
up the Riverview team, as they managed the final six shots on goal
in the period, which unfortunately still ended with the score tied
at 1-1.
Things got off to a better start for Riverview in the second
period, as they managed the first seven shots on goal, converting on
two of those. The first goal came a mere 38 seconds into the period
on a tap in off of a rebound. Less than three minutes later they
would nail a wrist shot from the faceoff circle to widen the lead
further, to a 3-1 advantage. Jenkins only managed a single shot on
goal during the period, partially due to the two penalties that they
incurred during the frame, leaving them shorthanded for nearly four
minutes total. The Ice Sharks were able to have success on the
second man-advantage, scoring a power-play goal off of another
rebound tap-in. That would be the final goal of the period, giving
the Sharks a 4-1 lead going into the final intermission.
Although Tara had to leave to take Drew to his YMCA meeting, I
stuck around to watch the remainder of the game. Aside from a brief
period of being short-handed due to a roughing penalty, Riverview
once again dominated the period. They would score midway through the
period, taking a 5-1 lead on another tip-in of a rebound. Late in
the game, near the 90 second mark, they would net another after a
breakaway led to another goal. With time running out, they would
slip one final goal between the Jenkins goalie's five-hole, giving
them a 7-1 victory. Way to go Sharks! |
