After a long layoff, made longer by two Covid related
postponements, Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates returned
to the ice bright an early this morning to face off against the Land
O' Lakes Fighting Gators junior varsity hockey team. It took a
while for the team to get going this morning, which we can only
partially blame on the start time today! Despite dominating the puck
throughout the first period, the Sharks couldn't find a way to get
one by the Gators goaltender. The second period was a near duplicate
of the first, as the Sharks out-shot the Gators through two by a
22-4 margin. Thankfully the last of those shots was knocked into the
back of the net on a rebound late in the second period, with just 40
seconds remaining, giving the Sharks a 1-0 lead.
The third period was much more even in terms of shots (4-3 in
favor of the Sharks), but the goal differential was much more
drastic. Riverview scored on their first two shots of the period,
widening their edge on the scoreboard to 3-0 midway through the
period. They would add a shorthanded goal later on, bringing the
score to it's final 4-0 total. A great return to the ice! |
