Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates took to the ice
today, facing off against the Jenkins Eagles in an afternoon matchup.
The Ice Sharks got on the scoreboard first, with Drew scoring with
just under 5 minutes elapsed in the first period. They continued to
dominate the puck early on, but then penalties started to slow the
Riverview skaters down. Two penalties consumed nearly a quarter of
the period, but thankfully a strong individual effort put the Sharks
on the board once more, as they scored shorthanded with just over a
minute remaining in the period. They would carry the 2-0 lead into
the first intermission. The second period found the Riverview team
firing a lot of shots on goal, but struggling to get a shot into the
back of the net. After an early power play, they continually found
themselves shorthanded, taking three straight penalties in a row.
Thankfully they were able to kill off all three, including nearly a
full minute of being down two skaters. Once again with just over a
minute remaining in the period, the Riverview skaters were able to
find success, as Drew notched his second goal of the game, tapping
in a teammates shot as the puck slowly trickled towards the goal
line. The goal gave the Ice Sharks a 3-0 lead, which would remain
when the third period started.
The third was a back and forth affair, as Riverview maintained
possession early. A penalty with just over two minutes remaining put
Riverview down two skaters, as Jenkins also pulled their goalie,
giving them a 6 on 4 man advantage. 30 seconds into, however, the
Eagles took a high sticking penalty, thus reducing their advantage
to 5 on 4. They were able to take advantage of the extra attacker,
though, as they took the games final 5 shots, and scored on one of
those with 90 seconds remaining. Thankfully that would be it, as the
Riverview team was able to hold on for the 3-1 victory! |
