Game number two between Riverview and Mitchell River Ridge took
place later in the afternoon, after the morning victory for the Ice
Sharks. It was Riverview who got off to the fast start, scoring
the games opening goal less than three minutes in, taking the early
1-0 lead. They continued to attack, firing shot after shot at the
Mustangs. Three minutes after opening the scoring, Mitchell River
Ridge answered back with a wrister from just inside the blue line -
a shot that the Riverview goaltender would certainly like back. The
period would end with the teams tied at a goal apiece, despite the
Sharks outshooting the Mustangs 12-3. Each team would spend a lot of
time visiting the penalty box as well, as Riverview taking one and
MRR taking two in the final 10 seconds alone.
Like the first, the Riverview squad outshot the Mustangs by a
wide margin in the second period. It was the Mitchell River Ridge
team that got on the board first, on a shot that resulted from a
Sharks turnover. Like the first period, each team spent a lot of
time in the box, with both sides getting called for two penalties
during this period.
The Riverview team kept peppering the Mustangs goaltender with
shots in the third period, but just couldn't crack the code to sneak
one in behind, even after pulling their own goalie for the extra
attacker. The 2-1 score would wind up being the final, as the Ice
Sharks fell for the first time in six games. |
