Today's second game for the Riverview Ice Sharks found
themselves facing off against the George Jenkins Eagles. Riverview
found themselves with two early man-advantages thanks to a couple of
Eagles penalties. The first one was killed off successfully, but the
Ice Sharks were able to convert on the second. They were able to
pounce on a rebound that came out to the right side of the crease
for a shot that they were able to bury for a 1-0 lead just four
minutes in to the game. Their lead lasted just under three minutes,
as the Eagles were able to score on a deflection that was redirected
into the Riverview net to knot the game at a goal apiece. Each team
would take a couple of penalties over the course of the rest of the
period, but neither team was able to convert. The second period
was marred by penalties, with each team taking two spread over the
course of the entire period. George Jenkins dominated the shots
early in the period, with Riverview getting the majority of theirs
late in the period. At the 4:30 mark the Eagles were able to take
advantage of an Ice Sharks turnover, getting off a shot that the
Riverview goalie couldn't corral. The Eagles pounced on the rebound,
tapping it behind the Sharks goalie for a 2-1 lead. That would be it
for scoring (and penalties) in the middle period, as we entered
intermission down a goal.
Three minutes into the third the Eagles widened their lead once
again, this time scoring on a wrist shot from the left circle to
grab a 3-1 lead. Over the remainder of the period the Ice Sharks
would dominate in shots on goal, though it took some time for them
to find the back of the net once again. With just under five minutes
remaining they were able to take control of an Eagles turnover and
fire home a wrist shot from between the circles, making it a 3-2
contest. With time running out, the Riverview squad pulled their
goalie to gain a 6v5 man advantage on the ice. They got a lot of
good looks at the net, but were unable to convert any of them. With
less than a second remaining the Eagles managed to hit the empty net
to seal the deal, closing the game with a 4-2 score. |
