Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates travelled to Oldsmar
tonight to take on the Palm Harbor University Hurricane. Things got
off to a good start for the Ice Sharks, as they pounced on the
rebound of their own shot and tapped in into the goal for a 1-0 lead
not even three minutes in. There wasn't a lot of action after that,
as the two teams spent a lot of time getting a feel for each other
on the ice. It wasn't until just under the six minute mark that
another event took place, and that was the first of three
consecutive Hurricane penalties to end the period. They would be
called for interference this time, then for elbowing with just under
four to play, and finally they followed those two up with a two
minute penalty for checking from behind and a ten minute game
misconduct call for the hit with just under two minutes to play.
Unfortunately for the Ice Sharks, they weren't able to convert on a
single power-play opportunity. The first period would come to a
close with a 1-0 Riverview lead. The second period continued the
parade to the penalty box. First it was the Ice Sharks with a
hooking call not even a minute in. Palm Harbor followed that up with
another checking from behind/misconduct penalty with a little under
thirteen minutes remaining. Neither team was able to score with the
extra attacker on the ice. Riverview widened their lead with a
little over eight minutes to play after knocking home another
rebound, making it a 2-0 game. With a little over seven and a half
to play Palm Harbor would take another penalty, this one for
elbowing. The Ice Sharks finally managed to score with the extra man
advantage, grabbing yet another rebound and driving it into the
Hurricane goal for a 3-0 lead with six minutes to go in the period.
Riverview would find themselves in the penalty box less than a
minute later, thanks to an interference call. This time it was Palm
Harbor that would take advantage, grabbing their own rebound and
flipping the puck up and over the Riverview goaltender to close the
gap to 3-1 with a little under five minutes to play. It appeared
that the period would end with that score, but the Hurricane were
able to complete a nice pass across the ice that found a stick for a
wrist shot that found the back of the Riverview net with just six
seconds left to play in the period, making it a 3-2 game. That would
be the score heading into the second intermission.
Not even a minute into the third period the Riverview side would
retake a two goal lead, score on a wrist shot from just inside the
left circle. They would make it a 5-2 score just fourteen seconds
later thanks to a nice backhand shot from the right side of the Palm
Harbor goal. The Hurricane would storm back, making a hard drive to
the net just twenty six seconds later that resulted in a goal that
narrowed the margin to 5-3. Each team would take a penalty following
that last goal, and that would mean a bit of 4v4 play. Unfortunately
for fans of the Ice Sharks, it was the Hurricane that utilized the
extra space on the ice, spring themselves on a breakaway that led to
the puck just trickling in over the goal line and a 5-4 score with
just under twelve minutes still to play. Riverview would take quick
back-to-back penalties, resulting in a brief 5v3 advantage for Palm
Harbor. Thankfully they were able to kill that off, but just after
regaining one of their skaters from the box, Palm Harbor fired home
a wrist shot from the right circle for a power-play goal that tied
the game at 5-5 with over nine minutes remaining. Palm Harbor kept
firing pucks on net, but thankfully they weren't able to grab the
lead on any of them. Riverview had to kill off one additional
penalty, this one for tripping, but they managed to hold on to keep
the score tied at 5-5 when the game came to a close. |
