Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates travelled south to
the Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex to face off against the Seminole
Warriors. The game did not get off to a good start for the Sharks,
however, as they would be called for a holding penalty just
seventeen seconds in. Thankfully they only allowed two shots on goal
on the penalty kill while also getting a good look of their own on a
shorthanded attempt. The Sharks got their own power play opportunity
just two minutes in, and while they managed six shots on goal, they
weren't able to find the back of the net on any of them. With eight
minutes and forty seconds to play the Ice Sharks finally broke
through, scoring a goal on a beautiful pass from behind the net to
the front of the crease that was fired home for the games opening
goal and a 1-0 lead. As I was writing down the details from the
opening goal, Riverview made it a 2-0 game just eight seconds later
on a goal I completely missed. Before I had a chance to recover from
the second goal, the Ice Sharks added to their lead just twenty one
seconds after scoring the first goal. The games third goal came on a
pass to the front of the net that was fired home on a rebound. This
was most likely the quickest three goals that the Ice Sharks have
scored all season! It wasn't until there was a little over four and
half minutes to play that the scoring resumed, as a Riverview skater
broke down the right side of the rink and managed to slide the puck
home through the Seminole goalie's 5-hole, making it a 4-0 game.
Seminole would take two quick penalties shortly after that fourth
goal, and the Ice Sharks would convert on their 5 on 3 opportunity,
firing home a wrist shot from between the circles to make it a 5-0
game with a little over two minutes to play. At this point, the
clock moved to a running clock with the five goal differential. That
would be the score heading into the first intermission.
Riverview would score first in the second period, taking just
over a minute to find the back of the net on a fluky goal down the
right side of the rink, making it a 6-0 lead. Riverview would
successfully kill off a tripping penalty just two minutes into the
period, though they did give up three good scoring opportunities to
the Warriors. Shortly after the penalty had expired, the Warriors
ruined the chance of an Ice Sharks shutout by burying a wrist shot
from between the circles through the Riverview goaltender's 5-hole,
making it a 6-1 game. Seminole would take a five minute roughing
penalty with just under seven minutes to play, and they would also
take a tripping penalty a minute later. Once again the Ice Sharks
would take advantage of their 5 on 3 opportunity, scoring on a pass
to the front of the net that was tip under the Seminole goalies pads
to make it a 7-1 game. That would be it for the scoring in the
second period.
There wasn't a lot to report on in the third period, as neither
team was able to score, despite the Warriors firing a lot of shots
on goal. The period was dominated by penalties - three for Riverview
and two for Seminole. The game would come to a close with the Ice
Sharks taking the 7-1 victory. Go Sharks! |
