| Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks teammates traveled to the
Clearwater Ice Arena for the first of back-to-back games this
afternoon, this one against the George Jenkins Eagles. There
wasn't a lot of action early in this one. The Eagles managed the
first two shots on goal, but then were called for an interference
penalty at the 12:21 mark. Riverview managed to fire three shots on
goal during their man advantage, but they couldn't find the back of
the net on any of them. It wasn't until more than half of the period
had elapsed before either team was able to score, and thankfully it
was the Ice Sharks who broke through first. They scored their first
goal on a rebound that was tipped into the Eagles net with just over
seven minutes to play. The Eagles would be called for their second
penalty of the game, this time for slashing, with a little over six
minutes to play. It would take the Ice Sharks just thirty-two
seconds of power play opportunity to take advantage, this one on a
pass across the crease that was tipped in for a power-play goal and
a 2-0 advantage. With a little under five minutes to play the Ice
Sharks would execute another nice pass to the crease that they once
again managed to tip into the Eagles net, making it a 3-0 score.
While waiting for the faceoff after the Riverview goal, the George
Jenkins coach went off on the referees, and ended up earning his
team a two minute unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Fortunately for
him, his team was able to kill off that penalty kill. The period
would come to a close with the Ice Sharks up 3-0.
The second period got off to a quick start for the Riverview
team, as they score just twelve seconds in on a long wrist shot from
just inside the blue line near the benches, making it a 4-0 game. It
would become a 5-0 game just thirty-eight seconds in, as the Ice
Sharks were able to bury a rebound once again. Jenkins would kill
off an interference penalty with just under fourteen minutes to
play, but the Ice Sharks would add to their lead shortly after it
expired. With eleven and a half to play they pounced on another
rebound, finding the back of the net to make it a 6-0 game. The
Eagles would be called for high sticking with just over five minutes
to play, but they would successfully kill that one off, preventing a
single Riverview shot on goal. The two teams would head into the
third intermission with the score 6-0 in favor of Riverview.
Riverview would add to their lead four and a half minutes in,
firing a wrist shot home from between the circles, making it a 7-0
game. The Eagles would dominate in shots on goal this period, but it
was once again the Ice Sharks getting on the score sheet, this time
with just over a minute remaining in the period, making it an 8-0
score, which would be the final score. Way to go Ice Sharks! |
