Saturday, June 3rd, 2023

After a long and stressful week (for a variety of reasons), Tara & I needed some time away together. We decided to spend the day at Walt Disney World.

I started my day earlier than planned as I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep. I managed to get in a shower before my alarm went off at 6:55am in hopes of getting into the virtual queue for the TRON Lightcycle / Run ride. I refreshed the screen on my phone promptly at 7:00am with the hope of getting a return time, but was stunned to be slotted into boarding group 7. Seven! That meant that we needed to get moving ASAP if we were going to make it tot eh Magic Kingdom in time. I woke up Tara so that she could jump into the shower while I went out to the kitchen to makes our lunches and pack for our day in the parks. Once Tara was ready to go we headed out. We made a pitstop on the way for gas and beverages and then were on our way!

Thankfully traffic on our drive wasn't too bad, and we arrived at the the Transportation and Ticket Center around 8:45am, fifteen minutes before the park officially opened. Unfortunately, our return time to TRON Lightcycle / Run had already been called, so we had to keep moving along. We rode the shuttle from the parking lot to the Transportation and Ticket Center and wanted to ride the monorail over to the park, but the line was long and we were on a time crunch, so we once again climbed aboard the ferry for the boat ride over to the Magic Kingdom.

Once inside the park we ventured straight to Tomorrowland to take our turn on the TRON Lightcycle / Run ride. Drew, Jayden, and I got to ride this on our last visit to the Magic Kingdom, but this was Tara's first opportunity to experience it. We both definitely enjoyed it, but we also agreed that the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride is a more enjoyable experience overall. With that being said, I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to enjoy either of them!

After we completed our turn on TRON Lightcycle / Run, we decided to spend the day enjoying attractions that we don't typically get to experience. We wandered into Fantasyland next and decided to climb aboard Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid as it is a ride that is kind of tucked out of the way and is often overlooked. We hadn't been on it in nearly two years, so it was almost like a new ride to us! While we were still in Fantasyland we decided to check out the Enchanted Tales with Belle show, which Tara had never seen. We enjoyed the show, but it is the reaction of the little kids in the audience that truly made it fun! We weren't done exploring Fantasyland quite yet, as we also decided to see the Mickey's PhilharMagic show. Although we have both seen it in the past, this was the first time that Tara has been able to see it with the new scene from the movie Coco. As always, the show was enjoyable, but similar to the Enchanted Tales with Belle show, it was the reaction of the little kids in the audience that made it extra special! Although it wasn't super late quite yet, both Tara & I were getting hungry, as we hadn't had breakfast due to our rushed morning. We decided now was a good time to enjoy our lunch, so we found a table inside of the Pinocchio Village Haus quick service restaurant to eat.

After we finished eating our lunch, we decided that it had been a long time since we had seen the Country Bear Jamboree in Fontierland, so that was where we decided to head to next. Like Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, it has been two since we sat down for the Country Bear Jamboree show. Before we could make our way into the show's waiting room, we got caught by the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade as it made its way through Frontierland. Neither of us had seen the entire parade, so we enjoyed it as it passed by. We finally made it into the Country Bear Jamboree show, and it might have been the most enjoyable viewing of that we have ever had. This month is Pride month at Walt Disney World, and today happened to have a lot of gay couples inside the Magic Kingdom park. We were joined by a lot of gay men at this showing of the Country Bear Jamboree show, and it was a hoot as they hollered along with the bears on stage - one audience member even asked for one of the bears phone numbers! Honestly, it may be been the best viewing of the show that we ever had - or ever will again!

After taking in the Country Bear Jamboree show, we made our way over to Adventureland to take a turn on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. As always, this is an enjoyable experience, though I have to admit that I do miss some of the original altered scenes from many years ago...

At this point we decided to Park Hop over to Epcot to check out what was available at the Flower and Garden Festival booths...

After spending the early part of the day at the Magic Kingdom, we Park Hopped over to Epcot to check out what was available at the Flower and Garden Festival booths. Tara decided that she wanted to grab a drink from Pineapple Promenade, which was located near the Port of Entry (the entrance to the World Showcase area of the park). She opted for a DOLE Whip topped with Sōmrus Mango Cream Liqueur, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Since we were in World Showcase area already, we decided to make our way "around the world". We stopped in Germany so that I could get a chocolate covered caramel at Karamell-Küche, which I saved for later. We continued our walk around the world, stopping in America for a funnel cake that we shared as we were feeling a bit hungry after our early lunch. We wanted to take a spin on Remy's Ratatouille Adventure in France, but the wait was just too long.

We headed out of the World Showcase and headed over to World Nature so that we could take a ride on one of Tara's favorites, Living with the Land. This is a relaxing experience, and one we use a lot to escape the Florida heat or just to take a break. We also wanted to take in the Turtle Talk with Crush show, but the weather was starting to look pretty questionable so we instead decided to head out of Epcot, as we had dinner reservations at Raglan Road at Disney Springs, plus Tara wanted to get the cookie of the month from Gideon's Bakehouse, so we needed to get in line (or the virtual queue, if that was in place when we got there).

We almost made it to the car before the rain started to pour down! Off to Disney Springs we go!

We arrived at a crowded Disney Springs and, after putting on our ponchos so that we could make our way through in the downpour, headed straight to Gideon's Bakehouse. There was indeed a virtual queue, with a 4+ hour wait time quoted to us!

After we checked in at Gideon's we decided to head across the walkway to Raglan Road to see if we could get in early, as we were there almost 45 minutes before our reservation time. To our surprise, we were seated right away, which was nice as we didn't have to spend time wandering around outside in the rain while we waited. Tara and I decided to pass on an appetizer, since there really wasn't much that sounded appealing to us (plus we had the funnel cake at Epcot!) and instead went straight to ordering dinner. We both chose the fish and chips, and when it arrived we thoroughly enjoyed it. Tara upgraded to garlic parmesan fries, and although we both enjoyed them, we agreed that we would stick to the standard fries next time.

While we were eating the rain stopped, so we were able to wander around Disney Springs while staying dry as we awaited our return time to Gideon's Bakehouse to be called. We wandered through the Lego Store, but I didn't find either of the two things that I was looking for. Tara did fall in love with the new ICONS PAC-MAN Arcade set, but we decided to wait for that one. We also wandered through the World of Disney but we didn't find any must-have items that we needed to purchase today. We also took a quick walk through Amorette's Patisserie to see what was new.

It was finally time for us to return to Gideon's Bakehouse, almost two hours earlier that we were told when we checked in! We were a little too early for their evening cookie, but Tara was able to get the cookie of the month - she got two, in fact! The cookie of the month for June is a Sea Turtle Cookie, which is premium chocolate, homemade caramel, and whole candied pecans sprinkled with their signature sea salt. I was all into this cookie, until I got to the candied pecans part, but Tara definitely enjoyed it!

With our cookies in hand (or in the bag, as it were) we decided to head home. It was an a great day spent with the one I love, and I look forward to our next day together!
