| Game number three for Jayden and the Riverview Lady Sharks took
place against the Sumner Stingrays on their field. Though it was
Sumner that got the first shot on goal, it was the Sharks that got
on the board first thanks to a long shot that deflected off of the
Stingrays keepers hands and into the net, giving the Sharks a 1-0
lead just eight minutes in. Unfortunately their lead was short
lived, as Sumner answered just minutes later on a corner kick that
was either headed/kicked in (I didn't have a clear view), knotting
the game at one goal apiece. The tie would last through the water
break. With twelve minutes to go the Sharks would retake the lead,
with their goal coming on a nice pass that went across and down the
field, leaving the Riverview forward alone to beat the keeper to the
right side of the net. Despite being outshot 6-2, the sharks were
the team that went into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Twelve minutes in the Sharks would score again, this time on a
corner kick that went short towards the front of the box and then
kicked up and over the Sumner keeper, giving Riverview a 3-1 lead.
Sumner would narrow the gap six minutes later, as they converted on
another corner kick that bounced around the box area before the
corralled it and headed it in, making it a 3-2 game. Not even two
minutes later they score again, this time on a pass to a wide open
Stingray in the middle of the field, resulting in an easy goal that
tied the score at 3-3. The ensuing water break gave the Sharks a
chance to regroup, but it was once again Sumner who found the back
of the net, this time on a shot that deflected off a Sharks player
that curled its way into the net, leaving the Riverview keeper
little chance at making the save. The Sharks found themselves down
for the first time, this time by a 4-3 deficit. Less than three
minutes later they would score their fourth goal of the game on just
their fourth shot, this time as their forward drove right through
the defense, getting behind them for an easy goal and another tie
score. A questionable trip in the box call resulted in a penalty
kick attempt for the Stingrays, and they managed to convert,
reclaiming the lead by a 5-4 score. The Riverview girls got the
final shot on goal, but weren't able to convert, and fell by the 5-4
margin when the final whistle blew.
Better luck next time ladies! |
