Jayden and her Riverview Sharks teammates hosted the Newsome
Wolves. This game did not go according to plan for the Sharks,
however... The Wolves got on the scoreboard early and often
throughout the opening half, scoring just three minutes in on a
penalty kick, thanks to a trip in the box by the Sharks. Newsome
would score again ten minutes later, on a long shot that found its
way under and past a diving Riverview keeper. A few minutes later
Newsome would make it a 3-0 game after the Wolves forward held off a
Sharks defender, essentially boxing her out, to fire a shot off the
goalpost that deflected into the net. Thankfully the first half
water break came before any additional damage could be done.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of the onslaught. Newsome would
score on their first two shots coming out of the break, the first of
which came on a pass to a wide open player who had an easy shot as a
result, and the second was similar, as the pass found its way
through multiple Riverview defenders with an open Wolves forward
waiting for another easy shot. The game would move to a 6-0 score on
a corner kick later in the half that was headed in. Newsome would
make it a 7-0 game on their next shot, thanks to a player that found
themselves behind the Riverview defense, firing off a shot that saw
minimal effort at a save by the Sharks keeper. The score moved to
8-0 after the Sharks keeper came out to challenge a Wolves player,
making the initial save, but the rebound was corralled by a Newsome
player and fired into the net once more. If the game had been in the
second half by this point, it would have ended, but because the
opening half wasn't over play continued on. Newsome would take
advantage of a failed clearing attempt by Riverview, firing a shot
up and over the Sharks keeper, making it a 9-0 game. The final goal
of the game came on another corner kick, this one got kicked around
the box a bit before being booted into the back of the net. The 10-0
score would be the final as the halftime came mercifully to an end
moments later.
