Game #6

8:00pm
Lennard High School - Ruskin 1st Half 2nd Half Final
Riverview Lady Sharks 1 1 1 1 4
Lennard Longhorns 0 0 0

Jayden and her Riverview Sharks teammates travelled to Ruskin tonight to take on the Longhorns at Lennard High School. Tonight Jay was selected to represent the Sharks as one of the team captains, joining the pregame meeting with the referees and the opposing team.

Once the first half got underway, the two teams spent the early moments playing back and forth in the midfield area. A little over ten minutes into the game, the Sharks carried the ball in on a two on two "breakaway" and they were able to convert a long kick that sailed around the Longhorns keeper into the games opening goal. That 1-0 lead would hold for the next eight minutes, when Jayden was fouled carrying the ball a few feet out of the box on the right side of the field. The play resulted in a direct kick, and Coach Samantha quickly called for a specific player to take the kick. Sam was rewarded for her choice thanks to a beautiful curling kick that found its way into the opposite side of the net for the games second goal on just the second shot to that point. Although both teams pretty much shared possession evenly over the next stretch of action, both before and after the water break, it was the Lennard side that was successful in getting their shots on net. Thankfully the Sharks keeper was up to the task tonight, making some quality saves throughout the course of the game. With less than 10 minutes left in the half, the Riverview girls would widen their lead, making it a 3-0 score on a one on one breakaway that resulted in a shot from in close that went across the box and into the net. That score would hold until the half came to a close. Though the play seemed close for both teams, it was the Longhorns on top of the shot chart by a 5-3 margin. Fortunately for the Sharks, their shots were high quality and found the back of the net each time!

The second half seemed to repeat the first, as the two sides both had their opportunities, but when Riverview shot they missed the net, while Lennard found the net but ultimately was unable to score. The Longhorns had the first three shots of the half - the only three prior to the final water break, but the score remained 3-0. The Sharks got their first shot of the half on net just after the water break ended, and they once again converted, scoring on a long high kick that sailed over a crown in the box as well as the Longhorns goalkeeper, making it a 4-0 game. The Longhorns attempted to ramp up the pressure, and they had the rest of the shots on net in the remainder of the half, but they were unable to convert on any. When the final whistle sounded, the Sharks had gone a perfect 4 for 4 on turning their shots into goals, while the Longhorns went 0 for 14. Despite being outshot, the Riverview squad definitely wasn't outplayed, and they were quite happy to walk away with a 4-0 win! Way to go girls!
