| After Drew, Jayden, and I spent the majority of the day in
Detroit today, and Tyler and Rose spent their days at work, Tyler
still wanted to spend the evening taking us out on his boat. He
settled on the Holloway Reservoir Regional Park in Davison,
Michigan. The Holloway Reservoir is a shallow, warmwater impoundment
on the Flint River in Genesee County, Michigan, covering about 1,975
acres. Formed in the 1950s, it serves as a regional park with
various recreational areas for fishing of various fish species,
including smallmouth bass and walleye, as well as swimming,
picnicking, and boating. We drove to the Walleye Pike Boat Launch,
and though the weather was looking questionable we put the boat in
the water. We got off to a bit of an inauspicious start, as Tyler
was unable to get his truck to move off of the ramp after dropping
the boat. Thankfully a couple of other boaters were coming back in
at that time, and between the two of them one of them offered up a
tow rope and the other hooked us up and pulled us out. After that
Tyler struggled to keep the motor running on his boat. After a lot
of Google searches and some tinkering, Drew finally figured out the
right thing to do, and we got it fired up. A few restarts to make
sure all was good, and then we were off on the lake!
We cruised around a bunch of the reservoir, thankful that the
weather was holding off. We cruised under a bridge at one point, and
even found a rope swing (that we didn't check out today) before
eventually finding a spot that Tyler, Rose, Drew, and Jayden hopped
off the boat and went for a swim. We cruised around some more, but
eventually the rain started to fall. We made it back to the boat
launch while being pelted by water.
Although we got wet to end our excursion, spending the evening on
the lake with three of my kiddos (and my fifth, Rose) was a great
way to spend the day! I couldn't ask for more! |
