11/06 - Animal Kingdom / Magic Kingdom

Home Up

Thursday, November 6th, 2025

This morning Grandma Terry, Uncle Steven, Aunt Erica, Samantha, and I had reservations for Disney's Animal Kingdom. Our main goal was to attend the PassHolder preview for the Zootopia: Better Zoogether! show. I woke up like a normal workday today, got myself ready, then open up the My Disney Experience app in an attempt to get into the virtual queue for Zootopia: Better Zoogether!, while Aunt Erica was at her house doing the same. Thankfully I got in, and our group number was 39, and we had an approximately 125 minute wait. That meant we needed to hustle out of the house and get on the road, but of course that isn't our strong suit. We managed to get out of the house, but had to stop and pick up Sam at her house, and then Erica at hers, before we finally started making our way to Walt Disney World.

We arrived at the park, made our way through security, then hustled over to the restrooms, which we all needed to use by this point! After we all felt some level of relief, we made our way through the entry points then made a bee-line for the Tree of Life Theater to get in line for Zootopia: Better Zoogether!. We were technically a few minutes late at this point (our queue had been called around 65-70 minutes prior), but we were allowed in no questions asked. The wait wasn't too long, though we had to wait longer than usual because we had Steve in the wheelchair, and that section had gained quite a line.

Once we finally made it into the theater, we got our chance to see the brand new show for the very first time. I have to admit, as a huge fan of the Zootopia movie, that I was disappointed in the Zootopia: Better Zoogether! show itself. The theater itself was essentially unchanged, which OK, I get it, we're inside of a giant tree and it still kinda makes sense. I was just hoping for a little more... aside from the one animatronic character, there really wasn't anything that said this very show couldn't take place in any theater in the parks. Anyway, back to my main complaint about the show... they had an opportunity to educate us on how animals, or even people in general, can work together to make things better. I mean, this is implied in the Better Zoogether part of the shows name! Instead the show is just a series of mishaps in the various biomes that make up the city of Zootopia. They did make good use of the water effects for those seated in the theater seats, and they also utilized what used to be bugs crawling under our seats, though I thought that effect was less effective. I am sure that I will see this show again, but - again, despite being a big Zootopia fan - I don't think it is a must see when I visit this park.

After we watched the show, we were getting hungry. Sam ended up grabbing a baked macaroni & cheese with pulled pork (topped with crispy onions) from the Eight Spoon Café, which she ate as we made our way to Pandora – The World of Avatar. Grandma Terry, Uncle Steve, Aunt Erica, and I all grabbed a bite to eat from Satu'li Canteen. Grandma Terry ordered the chimichurri beef bowl (which is chimichurri beef topped with crunchy vegetable slaw and boba balls) while the rest of us opted for kids meals - the "Teylu" all-beef hot dog wrapped in dough (an all-beef hot dog wrapped in a Parker House dough served with vegetable chips). This is my favorite meal by far in this park!

While we were in Pandora – The World of Avatar, Sam, Steve, and I got in line for Avatar Flight of Passage. We hadn't been on this ride in a long time, and the wait wasn't too terrible, so we gave it another go. As always, we enjoyed the ride, and this time we even got to enjoy the sights in the quute (we had been skipping this a lot lately with Steve utilizing the DAS). It was definitely worth doing again, and I think we need to make an effort to try it again more often!

While the three of us were on the ride, Grandma Terry and Erica were off browsing the shops. We kept in touch, and as we got on the ride they headed over to the Starbucks on Discovery Island so that Aunt Erica and Sam could get their fix!

After that, we saw a few of the animals on display on Discovery Island and decided to make our way over to Disney's Magic Kingdom for the rest of our day...

Because the show is in "4D" I couldn't get many quality pictures. Here is a wider look at the theater during the show.

We also saw the family of Asian small-clawed otters in the Otter Grotto on Discovery Island.

After we left Disney's Animal Kingdom, we made the drive to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where we found a parking space before making the hike to the security station. We eventually made our way to the ferry boat, which would take us to Disney's Magic Kingdom.

As we arrived at the park, and made our way through the entry point, the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade was getting underway, and hadn't made it past where we entered the park. We decided not to fight through the crowd, and instead staked out a spot to stand and watch it. I think this was the first time I have seen this particular parade the entire way through, as I've just caught bits and pieces in the past. While we were waiting for the parade to start, Grandma Terry wandered off, and eventually returned with The Nightmare Before Christmas Jack Skellington popcorn bucket!

After the parade was complete, we headed over to Adventureland, so that I could check out the wares offered in Island Supply by Sunglass Hut, as I had recently lost my sunglasses and wanted to check out my options. I didn't fall in love with anything, so we continued on.

We made our way back across the park, this time to get in line for TRON Lightcycle / Run. This was our first time on the ride with the new Tron: Ares movie red colorway and music. Although it doesn't dramatically change the ride in any way (I honestly couldn't really tell any difference in music), I did enjoy the red color. I think that they should keep both the red and the blue moving forward, and randomize them as to which color appears when! Alas, I'm not an imagineer, and am likely to never become one. A man can dream!

At this point we were getting hungry once again, so we decided to make our way back to the car (with a detour through the shops on our way out, of course). After returning to our vehicle, we started the trek back home, though we did stop at Texas Roadhouse (sorry Chili's - maybe next time!) for dinner.

Already looking forward to my next trip to Disney! Thank you to everyone who joined me today!
