Home Up

After we left the fort, we went for the 5-mile drive across the Mackinac Bridge. We then went into St. Ignace, where we transferred from the bus to a ferry boat at the Shepler's Ferry dock.

Shepler's Ferry

Obviously expecting us, here is the sign welcoming Patterson Elementary School.

Tyler wasn't happy that his picture was being taken, in a somewhat awkward manner, by Rodney.

Once we disembarked from the boat, we made the short walk from the dock to the Island House Hotel, where we would be staying for the next two nights. We were handed out room keys outside and given the opportunity to go inside and drop off our luggage. We then had some free time to do as we pleased prior to dinner.

The Island House Hotel

The Island House Hotel with the Patterson Elementary group gathered out front prior to checking in.

The other end of the hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor of the wing to the far right, but on the back side of the hotel.

The "Historic Site" sign for the Island House. In operation since 1852!

This was the main bedroom area of our hotel room. Note the head-bangers ceiling (and not due to any kind of rock music playing in the background).

Tyler was especially fond of the pink coloring in the room. Notice the hand-painted dresser with pink trim. Very macho.

This view shows our TV and the passageway to the couch area, where Danny slept.

Looking from the couch area of the room towards the bedroom area.

The hallway on the fourth floor. Very frilly pink flowers up and down the halls.

The view from the front porch of the hotel was nice, looking out at the harbor.

Prior to dinner the boys decided that instead of hanging out in our room that we should take a walk into town. We didn't have a lot of free time, so we went for a short walk.

Mackinac Island

The Mackinac Island Yacht Club is the neighbor to the Island House hotel.

Fort Mackinac was only a couple of houses away from the hotel.

A closer look at Fort Mackinac.

The statue of Jacques Marquette.

A neat rock formation on the bluff in front of the fort.

Downtown, as viewed from the corner of Marquette Park.

Tyler and Danny went to check out the statue a little closer on our way back for dinner.

After a long day, it was finally time to eat: Pizza! We were treated to a pizza buffet and pop dinner tonight, inside the Island House dining room.

Dinner At The Island House Hotel

The Island House Hotel was expecting us too, as well as one of the other elementary schools from the district. We never did see any priests in the hotel, so we are assuming that was somebody's last name...

Our table in the dining room for the first night.
