I'm not 100% certain that this little tidbit is true, but
Samantha kept telling me that her team was playing a U9 (meaning all of the
players are 9 and under) team in their final game of the season. This would have
meant that the girls they were playing were all younger than anyone on their
team. If it was indeed true, it didn't seem to help them for very long.
The Puma's started out strong, scoring the first goal of
the game to grab a 1-0 lead. That changed very quickly, however, as the Waza
team scored three goals in a less than five minute span to take a 3-1 halftime
lead. Sam started the second half of the game in goal, and she gave up a quick
score on a breakaway that pushed the score to 4-1. Thankfully she toughened up
for the rest of the game, making some nice saves and shutting the opposition out
for the rest of the game. Unfortunately her teammates were unable to replicate
their early success and they couldn't manage to score another goal, although
there were plenty of chances (including one that bounced off of the post and
rolled back across the goal mouth but never crossed the line).
The season concluded on a rough note, tying after giving
up a late goal in their seventh game and losing to a younger team in their final
game. Overall, however, they had a pretty decent season, especially considering
that 1/3 of their team had never played the indoor game before. Their final
record was a respectable 3-3-2. Tara & I are very proud of the effort Samantha put
into the season and look forward to her future in soccer. Love you Sammie!
