The kids were allowed a brief period of rest and to get
some water before resuming play for the second game of the double-header on June
5th. Unfortunately not many kids were able to stick around for the late game,
since it started about 3 hours later than planned. That gave other kids an
opportunity to fill in the vacant spots on the roster - Drew played in the
outfield and got a chance to bat, and a couple of the other kids on the teams
had siblings play as well (Ben's brother Nick went 3 for 3 with an RBI, for
example). With only 6 regular players, the team struggled as one would expect.
Samantha showed what playing 3 games in a matter of a few hours can do, as she
had a rough game batting, striking out multiple times. She did have a strong
game in the field, however, catching a fly ball and catching a throw to force a
runner out, all while playing third base. For her efforts, she was awarded
today's game ball. Drew was also given a game ball for helping the team out when
they were short handed. Great job guys! We are very proud of you both!
