Tyler's basketball team was involved in a real nail-biter today,
but they managed to hold on long enough to squeeze out an 18-16 win. Although we
led throughout the game, there were a couple of furious rallies against us to
end each half that made the game close. Tyler made one basket from the field,
and was fouled in the act of shooting late in the game, when we were only up by
two points. Last week he said how much pressure he was feeling when shooting
free throws during the game (after he had missed a couple of shots), so I told
him that he needed to just relax and take a deep breath before getting into his
routine. He must have taken that advice to heart, because he calmly stepped to
the line and swished both shots through the net without the ball even grazing
the rim. We didn't score again, and the other team got one more basket in the
frantic closing moments, so Tyler's free throws ended up providing the winning
margin! He didn't seem to think that this was a big deal, but Tara & I are very
proud of him!
Another reminder - Tyler's
number this season is 2, so keep an eye out for that if you can't figure out
which one he is when looking at them.
