July 18th - Page 7

Home Up

These pictures pick up where the previous page left off, with us headed towards Mackinaw City. We were fortunate enough to be able to cruise past two U.S. Coast Guard ice cutters, both with the name of Mackinaw. The old cutter has been retired and turned into a museum that is station right in Mackinaw City. The new cutter was temporarily docked for a few days while on it's way back from the ill fated rescue mission of two sailors who died as their boat got caught up in the previous night's storm. After passing by these two vastly different and very impressive vessels, we made our way out to and under the Mackinac Bridge...

Star Line Sunset Cruise

Jayden peeking through an opening at the front of the boat, trying to get a better look.

The sun over the Mackinac Bridge.

The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. This is the new version of the Mackinaw, as the old one was retired and turned into a museum several years ago.

Although difficult to see due to the sun, this is the old version of the Mackinaw.

Another look at the new Mackinaw.

And yet another.

On July 14th we rode our bikes by the front of this house... here is a look at the east side of the house.

The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse.

Jayden got bored on the boat ride from time to time, although that really wasn't a problem for the rest of us!

One more look at the mansion in Mackinaw City. If you can afford the house, you can probably afford the cleaning crew as well...

A view of the sun over the Mackinac Bridge, looking through the side of the boat.

A look at the sun setting behind the Mackinac Bridge as a semi passes by.

Another look at the Mackinac Bridge as our boat makes it's way from St. Ignace towards the bridge.

Another look at the sun setting behind the bridge.

The sun over Lake Michigan.

This was the view of the bridge we had after we first passed under.

Looking up through the bridge from below, you can actually see cars passing by through the grating.

Looking up at the Mighty Mac from another perspective.

One more shot of the sun setting.

A sailboat and a powerboat racing by as the sun sets behind them.
