With a lot of unknowns in front of her, Samantha went out
for the team on June 18th. Thankfully one of her classmates was there as well,
as were several of the players from the indoor soccer team that she played on
this past winter. There was 21 girls at the tryout today, and they spent about
30 minutes doing various drills and 30 minutes playing a scrimmage. It was
really hard for me to tell what was going on, but all in all I would say that
Sam was able to hold her own. There were definitely girls there who were better
than her, and there were girls there that she was without a doubt better than as
well. After the session had concluded, we were asked to return tomorrow if
possible and to check our email for a response...

This was the group of kids who started out warming up with
Samantha. They were divided into their appropriate age groups after
this drill.

We found out during the evening that Samantha had been chosen for the team,
which made her beyond excited. The coach still requested her presence at the
tryout session on the next day, the 19th, though, so that he could further
evaluate all of the girls. I didn't count how many were here because I couldn't
tell who had returned and who had signed up for the first time today. Sam held
her own once again, and Tara & I gave our verbal commitment to the team after
the session had ended.
