Samantha and her teammates played in their first
basketball game of the season at 9:00am on January 7th. As I sat in the stands
watching the team during their warm-ups I was concerned that the season was
going to be a struggle, but just moments into the game the team was off and
running, getting easy basket after easy basket. By halftime they had a 28-6
lead. It appeared as if their coaches throttled them back a bit in the second
half, as the scoring was way down. They didn't need to score another basket,
though, as they wound up winning by a 34-21 score. Sam played well considering
that she has only been able to make it to 3 of the teams 6 practices (she has
soccer practice at the same time as one of her team's practice times). She
played well on defense, did some ball handling, and even managed to get off a
few shots - which unfortunately didn't work their way through the basket. All in
all I would consider this a promising start to the season, and hopefully things
will get better as they have more time to work together as a team!
