After telling the coach that she would play goal full
time, Samantha got the opportunity to make good on that during today's game. She
played pretty well in goal overall, despite giving up her first two goals of the
year. The first goal that she allowed was pretty controversial, as the ball hit
off the crossbar and headed straight down before Sam grabbed it. The referee
told the girls to play on, but the associate referee (what I've always called
the side judge) ruled it was a goal despite the fact that he wasn't anywhere
near the end line to see if the ball ever crossed the line. Sam claimed that it
never fully crossed, but there was nothing that could be done about. From a La
Forza fans perspective it surely seemed as though the side judge had it out for
us, as he made several highly questionable calls throughout the game. Sam made
on big mistake later on, kicking a low ball out on a goal kick that went to an
opposing player who promptly kicked the ball high in the air, over Sam's head,
and into the net. Her mistake didn't cost the team, though, as they were unable
to score once again to help support her. When the final whistle blew, the girls
had lost by a score of 2-0.
