Game 1

Home Up

June 13th, 2015

This game was our introduction to how the baseball tournament system works. Take a team of little league players and put them up against a group of travel players and the outcome isn't likely to be pretty. And, after watching this one play out, it wasn't. The Holly Grey team batted first, and went down quickly. The team from Plymouth-Canton, replete with matching warm-ups, bags, and the whole nine yards came up next. Needless to say, things got ugly fast. Not only did this team score, but they scored again and again. The entire first inning took an hour to complete, and when it was over the Power team put 21 runs up on the board. Things got so bad, with so many mental mistakes and errors, that the Holly Grey coaches eventually swapped out their entire infield (with the exception of first base). It didn't help. Thankfully the games had a strict 90 minute time limit, and after that first inning our kids calmed down a little bit (and they stopped their runners from stealing and advancing as much). In fact, they even managed to score a run - and they celebrated like they had won the world series! When the game was over, the result was a 21-1 thumping at the hands of a much more experienced travel team.

Fred Moore Memorial Rotary Tournament Holly Grey Game 1 - vs. Plymouth-Canton Power

Despite not starting the game, Samantha entered and played second base in the first inning.

Sam scooped up a grounder...

...and took aim at first base...

...and threw out the runner.

Sam also played in left field today.

Sam only batted once today.

Sam fouling off a pitch...

...before being walked.

Sam standing on first base...

...and taking off for second...

...and coming in safely standing up.

Sam with the lead at second base, where she would be stranded.
