Samantha and her Michigan Impact teammates kicked off
their season against the Michigan Rush Downriver team. They fell behind early in
the first half on an amazing cross shot
that soared high over the Impact goalie into the side of the net. In all
reality, there was no way she was going to be able to stop the shot. The Impact
team broke through with a goal of their own in the second half, with the help of
an opposing player as she accidentally headed the ball into her own net.
Regardless of how the goal was scored, it tied the game up. The girls kept the
pressure on in the second half, and netted the go-ahead goal late in the game on
a lofted shot that went over the keepers head. Sam played a pretty strong game today,
doing her best to control the ball in a crowd despite battling a very sore knee,
which caused her to sit some in each half. She also had some very nice shot attempts from outside
the box, but she couldn't find
the back of the net. She also had two good header attempts on corner kicks that just missed.
Overall she put in a very good effort in today's game.
