Tonight, the Venice Indians took on the Charlotte Tarpons
in Venice. After speaking with the opponents fans, we learned that there is a
Charlotte High School and a Port Charlotte High School. Charlotte High is
located over the bridge in Punta Gorda. The Tarpons came into tonight's game
with a 4-4 record in the conference. Venice has a 5-2-2 record. Since Charlotte
had lost to Braden River 0-4 we thought this may be an interesting game and one
we could easily win. Quickly that thought changed; Charlotte came out with a
bang and our girls we not getting any favors from the refs. With the rain coming
down in sprinkles throughout the game, the constant pushing, and lack of any
calls, our girls took a beating. With many shots on goal, our goalie kept Venice
in the favored position and only let in one goal. With the Indians trailing in
the first half, our girls we determined to show the Tarpons why we were in first
place. An injured player quickly came off the bench and scored a goal for the
Indians making the score 1-1 as they headed to halftime. As we entered the
second half, our players just kept taking a beating. Sam managed to sit most of
this half, since she reinjured her knee in the first half and was limping on the
field. With the guidance of the injured player, Venice came back and scored
another goal bringing the score to 2-1. That is where the score ended. This was
the first game I witnessed where so many of our players were injured, angry, and
flat out exhausted at the conclusion.
