Today the Venice Indians finally got to step on the field
for their first game of the season, taking on Manatee High School. Samantha
started the game playing forward wing, playing a strong game. She was quick and
made good plays to her teammates. The overall game was quick and and the play
was aggressive, but Venice managed to get the first score. What seemed like
moments later Venice scored again to take a 2-0 lead. As the game continued, the
field lights shut down and we were left in the dark. After a 15 minute game
delay the lights came back on, but Manatee scored to narrow the lead to 2-1.
Moments later the lights went out again and parents from both sides started to
become frustrated. Once they had the game back underway, Manatee managed to
score on us once again, making it a 2-2 tie. In the second half of the game, the
girls continued to fight for the win and squeaked in another goal. With a 3-2
lead things were looking much better, with the light situation behind us and
Manatee's momentum dying a bit, the girls maintained control of the ball,
dominating on their end of the field. Manatee had control in their end of the
field, but just when it seemed like Venice regained the ball an unlucky bounce
of the ball off of Sam's knee wound up giving Manatee the advantage and a goal,
bringing the score to a 3-3 tie. Our girls were doing their best to regain the
lead when the lights went once again, causing the referees to call the game.
Although this wasn't a league game, the girls played well and managed to run
parallel with Manatee.
