This may have been one of the most physical soccer contests I have ever been witness to, and yet the head referee made virtually no calls throughout the game. Things seemed to be going smooth during the first part of the game, but as it appeared that the Milan team realized that they were outmanned they began to resort to physical play. We're not talking the occasional hip-bump to an opposing player, but rather flat-out two-handed shoves that went uncalled. The longer this went on, the more the Impact girls began to adopt that style of play as well. When the halftime whistle blew with the scored tied at zero, everyone hoped it would provide a chance for everyone to settle down and play a good, clean second half. Unfortunately, both sides continued their physical play. The Milan girls managed to score the games first goal early in the half, but that only encouraged their style of play. Thankfully the side judge began making a few pushing calls, which seemed to slow them down only slightly. The Impact girls managed a score later in the half, tying the game at a goal apiece. That was the way the game ended, with both teams definitely earning their hard "fought" draw.
