Everyone involved with the Storm team was hopeful that
today's game would bring another victory. In the previous matchup between these
two teams, in the first game of the season, the Storm team came out on top,
taking the game by a score of 8-5. At that point of the season, things were
looking bright for the Storm. It has been a long season, however, and the
players were hopeful that they could end 2016 on a bright note. The first period
started off positively, though they couldn't quite manage to score when they had
chances. This has been an issue all season long, and today was no different. The
lone goal of the period belong to Macomb, and it held into the first
intermission. The Storm evened things up early in the second, though, renewing
the confidence and hopes for a victory. A misplayed puck on what probably would
have been an icing call gave the lead right back less than a minute later,
however. The rest of the second was back and forth, but neither team could
repeat their success scoring, leaving the score at 2-1 heading into the third
and final frame. Despite giving it their all, the Storm players weren't able to
scratch out the goal that they needed to draw even. In fact, the Mavericks
widened their lead halfway through the period, and salted the game away on a
power play goal with a little over three minutes remaining. The final 4-1 score
put a sour taste in the players mouths, as they didn't wrap things up showing
the progress that they have shown in spurts throughout the past month. Here's
looking to a brighter 2017!
