Today was Pink at the Rink at the Polar Palace Arena
Complex in Lapeer. Each member of the '05 Storm skated in memory of a cancer
survivor or those who have passed due to the deadly disease. This year, Drew
recognized Susan Cleveland, a great long-time friend of Tara’s. Entering the
rink, another parent mentioned the game should be evenly matched between the two
teams. The Honey Baked team was previously known as the Suburban Showplace team.
Within the first five minutes of the game, they showed our team the type of
skaters they are and placed a shot in the upper right hand corner of the net,
unable to be saved by our goalie. The Storm knew what they needed to do but
throughout the game couldn’t manage to keep up with the opposition's puck
handling and skating skills. By the end of the second period, we were trailing
6-0. Going into the third period, the Storm managed to show a lot more defense
and hustle, but they still couldn’t finish their attempted shots. When it was
all said and done, the Honey Baked team had defeated the Storm team by an 8-0
score.
Overall there is improvement in Drew's play after the year
long hiatus. He certainly could use more skating practice and puck handling
drills but we’re early in the season and we know he will improve over time.
