July 23rd, 2016

After Drew and I took the Pure Detroit Guardian Building tour last week and enjoyed it so much, we talked Grandpa Gary and Grandma Terry into participating in yet another Pure Detroit tour, this one at the Fisher Building. Unlike our Guardian Building tour, this tour took place entirely inside of the Fisher Building. We started out at the Pure Detroit shop inside the building, and toured the first floor, third floor, and the 19th floor. This building was intended to be a complex of three buildings, with two 30-story structures on either side of a 60-story tower. The Great Depression kept the project from being completed, leaving the one 30-story tower along with two 12-story wings.

Since we were in the city and had no other plans for the day, we headed towards the downtown area to participate in the 3:00pm tour starting in the Guardian Building. While the tour was about the artwork of architectural sculptor Corrado Parducci, the normal tour route was interrupted by the filming of the latest edition of the Transformers series of movies. Our tour guide went above and beyond, taking us on an impromptu tour of the downtown area, leading us on a random tour of the city. These tours, especially the ones starting from the Guardian Building, are HIGHLY recommended.

After the tour we hopped on the People Mover to ride to Greektown (we had Steve with us, and we couldn't ask him to walk any more than he already had by this time). We ate dinner at PizzaPapalis Taverna before riding the People Mover back to the financial district before driving home for the night.
