			| Although it is hard for us to believe, here we are again, back playing with the boys
once again! Samantha agreed to play with the Senior baseball team one last
time. This is essentially the same group of boys that she has played with for several years
now (some dating back to T-ball), so she
thought it would be a great opportunity to have some fun this
summer. Tonight the Holly team faced off against the Fenton team on Fenton's
home turf. Sam took her position in centerfield for the first inning
before sitting out the second. She
did better than expected in the field and saw some action,
helping to back up second base on a couple of plays. However, when
she made her way to the batters box, the rustiness was apparent. Sam
struck out during her first at-bat of the season. These kids really were
out to have a good time and it showed with each inning. After a
couple of innings back in centerfield on defense, Sam returned to
the plate in the 5th inning, this time she forced the pitcher into walking her.
She ended up stealing second and third bases before being driven in
on a "Little League home run" by her
teammate. What made this evening exciting was the enthusiasm the
Holly team had in the 6th inning - the rally resulted in nine runs
and they appeared to be on fire! So much so that the Fenton coach
threw in the towel at this point, choosing not to take their final
at-bats of the game, despite the outcome not being 100% certain. No one
on the field knew the score - and no one
cared! They were there to play ball and have a good time. That's
what Little League is all about! |
