Samantha and her Liverpool teammates gathered for their third
and final game of the weekend this morning, facing off against
United FC. Neither team had won a game so far in this tournament,
but the United team had at least managed to score a goal so far.
The Liverpool girls were determined to not go down east, however,
and came out strong. They kept on the attack, and finally managed to
break the ice with a goal early in the first half. They would add on
to their lead later with a second goal, and went into halftime
brimming with confidence and a 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the Liverpool team give their regular keeper
a chance to play the field, as another girl manned the net. For a
while it seemed as though the LFC girls would add to their lead, but
they just couldn't quite connect when they had the chance. The
United team would be the first to score in the second half, cutting
the Liverpool lead to a single goal. Even after allowing a goal it
seemed as if the LFC team could coast to a victory. Unfortunately a
near breakaway with less than 30 seconds left saw United knot the
score at two goals apiece, which is how the game would end. While it
wasn't the victory that we had all hoped for, it also wasn't another
loss for the girls... |
