Drew and his '05 Novi FireCats teammates took to the ice for
their first scrimmage of the fall season, travelling to Midland to
take on the host Northstars. Things were looking good early, as
the FireCats found the back of the net first, scoring less than a
minute into the contest. Despite some good offensive chances, they
weren't able to add on to their lead. A Midland power play goal
evened things up at a goal apiece with 10 minutes remaining, and
that is how it appeared that the first period end... until Midland
snuck one past the FireCats goalie with 2.3 seconds left in the
period, which gave the Northstars a 2-1 lead.
The two teams battled back and forth for half a period before
Midland finally broke through with a score, giving them a two goal
lead. The FireCats wouldn't quit, however, as they came back with an
answer a mere 6 seconds later with a goal of their own. Midland
would expand their lead further with two goals in the final four
minutes, but once again the FireCats weren't about to give up. They
found the back of the net once again, this time in the final 30
second of the second, narrowing the gap to 5-3.
After scoring to end the second period, the FireCats came out
hot, scoring once again 30 seconds in to the third period. This made
it a 5-4 game, and they FireCats were looking to build on their
momentum. A few minutes later the Northstars widened their lead once
again, scoring their 6th goal of the game with less than 12 minutes
remaining. Novi answered back, scoring 6 minutes later to close the
gap once again. Unfortunately that would be it for the FireCats
offense, and the game came to an end with the score 6-5 in favor of
Midland. |
