Drew and his Flint Jr. Firebirds teammates travelled down to Ann
Arbor tonight to take on another team from Flint, the Great Flint
Hockey Association Ice Raiders. The Ice Raiders are a newly formed
team, much like the Firebirds were last season, and it showed on the
ice. Though they had their moments, it was the Firebirds who would
dominate the action on the ice. The Firebirds scored on a tap-in
with just under 12 minutes to play in the period, and never looked
back, scoring four more goals (including a power play goal) in the
period. They would carry a 5-0 score with them into the first
intermission. Things slowed dramatically in the second period,
with just a single goal scored. It didn't come until there was 6
minutes remaining, but it was another goal in favor of the
Firebirds. From there, the only real excitement was the lone penalty
of the period, which was against the Firebirds as well. The period
would end with a score of 6-0.
The action picked up in the third period, but by this point the
game was already decided. The Jr. Firebirds would tack on three more
goals this period, with the first being a power play goal thanks to
a wrister by Drew. When the dust settled, the Firebirds walked away
with a 9-0 victory in the opening game of the Ring of Fire
Tournament. |
