March 22nd, 2019

Here is Tara's recap on today's visit to Walt Disney World:

Today, I took the day off to spend time with the kids. They really didn't do too much while on spring break so, it made sense to go spend the day playing at Disney. We started out heading there later than I had hoped, but we managed to arrive close to 1:15pm. To start off the day, we began at Animal Kingdom figuring we'd try a few rides and check out Dinoland U.S.A. The last time we were there the kids wanted to try Primeval Whirl but it was too late and we were all tired - this made for the perfect opportunity to give it a try and see what the ride was all about. Waiting in line was a neat experience, as we found hubcaps from several different GM product lines. Once on the ride, the three of us (Sam and Rod had to work) thoroughly enjoyed the ride and would like to give it a try again. Our next stop was DINOSAUR - the kids have been on this ride before but it happened to be my first time. The ride was exciting and enjoyable - I even slid around in my seat a bit more than I thought I would from all the jerking and rough terrain.

Once off the ride we happened to notice a girl with giraffe patterned Mickey ears. Of course, Jay wanted us to look for them so she could buy a pair. We looked high and low at every store in Animal Kingdom (even used the Disney App) but we ended up unable to make the purchase. It happens they were an exclusive item they had during the holidays but transitioned to a new look just a couple of weeks before this visit. Oh, well!

The kids were looking for a cold snack at this point, so we stopped for a frozen lemonade cup and made our way to the parking lot tram. We were ready to head over to Magic Kingdom. In the car, we at our lunch and made the drive and monorail ride over.

Today, we thought we'd try some new attractions and began our afternoon at the Liberty Square Riverboat ride. The kids had never been on and I thought it may be a nice break from the heat. They happened to notice Tom Sawyer Island and wanted to give that a try the next time we visited. Once off the boat, we headed to see how long the wait would be to ride the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride (they had such a great time when we brought Steve the weekend before) but, alas, the wait time was 2 1/2 hours long. We kept walking and made our way to Gaston's Tavern - the last time we were here, I had wanted to try LaFou's Brew and figured this may be a nice treat for us all. Jay had some Macarons and Drew couldn't pass up the Warm Cinnamon Roll. While snacking, we decided this may be a great time to check out Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress - it has been years since I have watched the show, but it was worth the experience again. It's interesting how long the ride has been around and the perception of the future. The experience really blends 1980 thru the current day with how technology is perceived.

After leaving the experience, Drew and Jay agreed to get in line for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover - another ride that I have not been on in several years. We had done quite a bit of walking and wandering around, so it was nice to take the break and relax. While on the ride, we stopped and started a few times. This seemed odd but understandable when you may have someone with a handicap who requires the ride to stop moving to load the disabled individual. About 5 minutes into the ride, we were abruptly stopped and at a stand still. After waiting close to 30 minutes, they finally came by and let us out, walking us through a long hallway behind the ride. For our inconvenience, they offered us a fast pass for another ride. The kids got all excited since we were right next to Space Mountain, a ride they both love. So, off we went and rounded out our evening since we needed to pick up his buddy, Noah from Michigan. All in all, it was a great day - just the three of us. We all had a great time and agreed, next time we were going just for character meet and greets!
