Although she didn't get the starting nod, Jayden and her
Barrington Bolts teammates took to the field today for the first
time, taking on the Burns Middle School Bruins at Riverview High
School. Although the Bruins dominated play early on, it was the
Bolts who got on the scoreboard first, on a nice long distance kick.
Shortly after that, Jay was the first player off the bench for the
bolts, checking into the game as a defensive sub. She wasn't on the
field for more than 10 seconds before taking a kick square off of
her face. Though she fell to her knees, she managed to tough it out
and stay on the field. Unfortunately the Bruins continued to
dominate play, and would score the tying goal minutes later. Jay
would come out of the game a short time later to ice her face.
Thankfully the whistle blew for halftime, giving the Bolts some time
to regroup.
The second half was a little more even as far as ball control,
but both teams struggled to score. Once again it was the Bolts who
broke through first, retaking their 1 goal lead. That would be
enough, as the Bolts were able to keep the Bruins off of the board
for the remainder of the game. The 2-1 victory would move them to
1-0 on the season. Way to go girls! |
