The Newsome White team came out firing today, dominating the
shots on goal category early, firing shot after shot after the
Riverview goaltender. Thankfully he was able to stand on his head,
stopping 7 shots in the first five minutes of game action. Despite
the onslaught of shots against, it was the Ice Sharks who made good
on just their second shot attempt, grabbing a 1-0 lead at the 7:55
mark of the first period. The shots were even for the rest of the
period, and neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Riverview got a few quick shots off to start the second period, but
it was Newsome who scored first in this period, just 45 seconds in
after a one on one 'breakaway'. Five minutes into the period Newsome
took a tripping penalty, and the Riverview team was able to take
advantage of it. A wrister from just inside the blue line found it's
way behind the Newsome goaltender, giving Riverview back their one
goal lead and a 2-1 score. Despite Riverview holding the edge in
shots for the period, it was a rebound off of their goaltender that
was poked back into the goal, knotting the score a two goals apiece
with less than 90 seconds remaining in the period.
The third period tilted back towards Newsome, as they once again
had the edge in shots. Thankfully the Ice Sharks goaltender was up
to the task, and kept the Newsome team from scoring another goal.
Unfortunately, the Newsome goaltender was equally capable,
preventing Riverview from retaking the lead. The game would end with
each team having scored twice, resulting in a tie . |
