May 8th, 2021

Today Tara, Samantha, Jayden, and I were joined by Grandma Terry, Aunt Erica, and Uncle Steven for our trip to Disney's Animal Kingdom.

When we got there we had trouble with Steve's band, despite being on the phone for over three hours to get all of the MagicBands taken care of. For some reason they had Steve's band on Grandma Terry's list. Once we got that straightened out we were good to go and enjoy the park.

The first thing that we did was head over to sign up for Steve's Disability Access Service (DAS). From there we headed off to Pandora - World of Avatar to sign up for the DAS pass for Avatar Flight of Passage. Since we had quote a wait to take advantage of the DAS pass, we decided to head over to Asia to climb aboard the Expedition Everest roller coaster. We decided to just wait this one out since the wait time was relatively short. Once our turn on the mountain was complete, we decided to eat lunch. We had packed lunches today, and we grabbed a table near the northern white-cheeked gibbons habitat to fill our bellies.

Since it was a hot day today, and we were already close by, we decided to climb aboard the Kali River Rapids - well, all of us but Tara, who didn't want to get wet! Speaking of getting wet, I got the worst of it by far on this particular ride. My shorts were soaked, but that wasn't even the worst part. It was my shoes and socks that were the worst. It was so bad that we wound up buying socks before leaving the park, and when I went to put them on my toes appeared like they had been in the bathtub all day!

After meeting back up with Tara, who remained blissfully dry, we decided to see the Feathered Friends in Flight! bird show, which was formally based on the movie Up! but has since dropped that movie from the concept. Aunt Erica and Jayden had never seen this show before, so it was a chance for them to try something new.

It was past time for us to to take advantage of our DAS pass for Avatar, so we headed back to Pandora to take flight. As always, Avatar Flight of Passage was an enjoyable experience.

The next thing on our agenda was to head to Africa to take a ride on the Kilimanjaro Safaris, though we ended up signing up for the DAS pass to avoid some of the wait. While we were waiting for our turn, we decided to catch the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch - another area of the park that Aunt Erica hadn't visited before. As it was nearing the closing time for this section of the park, we focused our time there on the Affection Section. Here we were able to pet sheep, goats, and pigs, while also seeing other animals in their respective pens.

Our last ride today was the Kilimanjaro Safaris, and this was one of our better rides as we got to see lots of animals and our guide was funny and informative. We even got held up on our journey for a while thanks to a giraffe on the roadway! We were getting hungry again at this point, so we decided to call it a day and head out in search of someplace to eat.

We ended up at taking the back roads to Champions Gate in Davenport, Florida to find a place to eat. We settled on Miller's Ale House, though we were tempted to give Chili's a shot, but the 90 minute wait was a tad too extreme. None of us were overly impressed with our meals, though it was good to get some food in our system after a long hot day on our feet. After dinner it was time to complete our drive home. Until next time Disney!
