Drew and his Riverview Ice Sharks returned to the ice to face
off against the River Ridge Mustangs in the second game of today's
double-header between the two teams. Riverview got off the first
shot of the game, but it was River Ridge that came back with the
next 8 before the Ice Sharks could get off another shot of their
own. Thankfully the Ice Sharks goaltender was up to the task, or
this game could have gotten out of hand fast. In a near repeat of
the earlier game, Drew once again opened the scoring for the Ice
Sharks, getting off a wrister from the left side that found the back
of the net, coming with just over five minutes remaining. Also like
the last game, the second goal of the period followed soon after the
first, only this time it was the Mustangs that would find the back
of the net. Their initial shot was stopped, but the Mustangs player
lifted the rebound up and over the Ice Sharks goaltender to knot the
game at a goal apiece with just over four minutes remaining. That
would be it for the scoring, and the Ice Sharks were lucky to head
into the intermission tied despite being outshot 15 to 2 in the
period.
The shots were nearly even in the second period, but it was the
Mustangs who would score the only goal of the period, with a battle
in front of the net resulting in the puck being banged into the Ice
Sharks net with just under three minutes remaining. There wasn't
much else of note to report on in this period, and the 2-1 score was
in favor of River Ridge heading into the final intermission.
The third period started off with a bang, as a Riverview tripping
penalty led to a River Ridge penalty shot. The Ice Sharks goaltender
was up to the task, making the save thanks to a timely poke-check
that knocked the puck away from the Mustangs shooter. With that
bullet dodged, the Ice Sharks would find their answer and tie the
game up at 2-2 just three minutes in. Drew would start the play with
a nice pass that led to another pass and finally an easy tip-in
goal. Unfortunately the Ice Sharks weren't able to hold on to the
lead, as the River Ridge team got a near 3v0 breakaway to retake the
lead with seven minutes remaining. Riverview would outshoot the
Mustangs 5-2 to close out the period, but they couldn't manage the
tying goal that they needed, and would fall in this contest by a 3-2
score. |
