With Tara in town, the two of us decided to take a trip to Epcot
to spend the day together. With the International Food & Wine
Festival in full swing, it was the perfect opportunity for us to get
away for a bit and enjoy the offerings of the festival. As a bonus,
I was able to secure a spot in the virtual queue for Guardians of
the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind for today as well! Our first stop
after arriving at the park was Living with the Land, the ride
showing off a variety of food growing techniques that is a great
opportunity to get off of your feet for a bit. Once we finished our
boat ride our arrival time for the Guardians of the Galaxy:
Cosmic Rewind return was nearing, so we headed across the park.
We arrived a little bit early, so we found a spot in the shade to
wait it out. Once we were notified that our time to ride was here,
we headed inside. Tara was a bit nervous about the ride, as she had
heard that several people were dealing with motion sickness issues,
but she ended up thoroughly enjoying it! If only there was a way to
ride it again!
After those rides we decided that it was time to eat our lunch.
We packed food for the day, but we also decided to try the Fry
Flight from the Fry Basket, that consisted of sea salt and malt
vinegar fries that were plant-based, barbecued bacon fries with
smoked aļoli, and sweet potato casserole fries with candied pecans,
toasted marshmallow cream and caramel whisky to taste with our own
food. We found a table inside of the Odyssey building were we could
stay out of the sun while we ate. We enjoyed all of the fries,
though each of them could have used more toppings. I even tasted the
sweet potato option, and though it wasn't horrible, it wasn't my
favorite either. I'd lean towards the barbecue bacon fries, but as I
said, they needed more of the smoked aļoli to go with them.
Definitely worth a try!
After eating we decided to make the walk around the World
Showcase. Our first stop was in Ireland, where Tara got the Guinness
Baileys Coffee Shake for a tast. She wound up really enjoying this
drink - it might be one of our best purchases of the day, at least
in her mind! We found ourselves in France for our next stop, where
we decided to wait in line for Remy's Ratatouille Adventure.
The positive about our wait in line was that we were sheltered as a
Florida afternoon rain passed through the area. And, as always, we
enjoyed the ride! We continued our trek around the world, and
stopped once more for a snack, this time at the The Swanky Saucy
Swine, where we got a Bourbon Bloody Mary with Seaside Grown Bloody
Mary Mix and Labrot & Graham Woodford Reserve Bourbon Whiskey for
Tara and an order of crispy barbecued pork rinds with pimento cheese
for us each to taste. Although I am not a huge barbecue flavored
fan, these weren't overwhelmed with the flavoring. Neither one of us
could really figure out what the pimento cheese was for, however. It
didn't really seem to work as a dip for the pork rinds - not that I
would have eaten them together anyway!
At this point in the day the rain was making a comeback, and the
skies were getting extremely dark, making us question if even more
was on the way. We decided to head out of the park to make the drive
home. We did end up stopping at Chili's in Champions Gate for dinner
before completing our drive home. The meal hiccup came with our
chips and salsa that they didn't deliver until our food arrived. At
least our waitress was nice enough to give us a bag of chips and a
bowl of salsa to take home with us to make up for it!
All in all, a great day spent with the one I love! Can't wait to
do it again sometime - hopefully soon, even if it isn't at Disney! |
