Hurricane Ian - Venice
The Venice Theatre was definitely the most damaged building that
we drove by today...
...as the building was stripped bare at its highest level.
A look at the trees down along West Venice Avenue heading
towards the Gulf.
The water near the Freedom Boat Club along Tarpon Avenue was
filled with plants/weeds that were blown in during the storm...
...and it looked like the boats were sitting on land.
A quick break from the hurricane damage pictures as I share some
photos of some brown pelicans that we saw at the South Jetty...
...along with a picture of the beach - Tara thought that the
water was still low from the storm (based on the big step along the
beach), though I wasn't sure if it was just a low tide period.
And now, back to the pelicans!
Most of the damage that we saw today was roofing related,
including the one of the Edward Jones building on the Venice
island...
...and the 7-11 building along US-41...
...and the building that houses the Travelodge and Subway at the
corner of US-41 and Shamrock Drive.
It appeared as though the McDonalds next door lost their normal
golden arches sign and instead had this temporary sign mounted.
We also saw a lot of billboards that were missing their signage
and leaning quite heavily, most in the southward direction.
We noticed that the entry to Gulf View Estates, where our first
Venice home is, had been repainted. The leaning signpost was only a
warning of what was to come...
There was a lot of brush along the roads in this subdivision.
The trees along the retention pond were leaning a bit.
We saw several trees down, many making their way to pool cages.
Our old street, Tyler Street, along with virtually every other
street, had the street sign down.
A look down Tyler street with the brush piled up.
Both ends of our former street were laying on the ground.
We also saw several pool cages with large sections of screen
missing.
It appeared that a tree fell on the eave of the garage on this
house.
We're not sure if this was storm damage or eviction debris, but
there was a lot of rolls of carpet and padding lining the streets in
this sub as well.
The middle house in this photo was our original Florida home.
Another house with a tree on the pool cage.
Our second subdivision, Woodmere Lakes, didn't have too much
damage. The door on this house was boarded over, but it was tough to
tell if it was due to the storm prep or damage.
There was a lot of trees down along Jacaranda Boulevard as
well...
...as was what was left of this fence...
...and a bunch of signage throughout all of Venice, including
this 7-11 on Jacaranda Boulevard.
