Jayden and her Riverview Lady Sharks teammates travelled to
Bloomingdale High School to take on the Bulls in their first game of
the season. Jayden got the start at defensive midfield tonight.
Bloomingdale took control of the game early, controlling the flow of
play for a majority of the half. The Bulls also opened the scoring
on a long shot that soared into the top of the net, over the
outstretched arms of the Sharks keeper. The Sharks managed to keep
the score close as the two teams headed into the water break,
splitting shots on goal evenly following the games first goal.
Coming out of the water break the Sharks seemed to lose their
momentum from before, as the Bulls tacked on their second goal.
Following a bad Sharks turnover that resulted in a 3 on 1 scenario
for the Bulls, they were easily able to fire a shot in behind the
goalie, making it a 2-0 score The pace would pick up from that point
on, as Bloomingdale would make it a 3-0 game on a shot following a
corner kick. I couldn't really make out what happened due to the
crowd in front of the net, but a score is a score, and the Sharks
found themselves in a hole at this point. A short while later it
would become a 4-0 game, when the ball trickled its way through the
box and was eventually kicked in under the diving Sharks keeper.
With less than five minutes to go in the half, Riverview finally
managed some offense. A nice individual effort on a drive through
the defense resulted in a shot that sailed past the Bulls keeper,
making it a 4-1 game and providing some hope for the Riverview
ladies. That score would hold until the halftime whistle.
The second half was pretty much all Bloomingdale, aside from a
single shot on goal early on for the Sharks. Bloomingdale would add
on to their lead with their fifth goal of the game when the ball
kept getting kicked around the front of the net, before finally
getting shot in. Two minutes later they would make it a 6-1 game, on
a play where it looked like the defense had almost given up,
resulting in an easy goal. The goal that made the score 7-1 came
when a Bulls player outran the Sharks D, and fired a shot past a
sliding keeper. The final goal came off a direct kick that resulted
in an initial save, but the Sharks keeper ultimately bobbled the
ball and the Bulls were able to control and kick it in. Thankfully
the Riverview squad was able to prevent any further damage,
preventing the mercy rule didn't come into effect, even though the
outcome was unchanged.
Better luck next game ladies! |
