Home Up

Snow! We woke up to snow covering the ground this morning. Leaving early was supposed to help us avoid this!

La Quinta Inn - Florence, Kentucky

Here is the hotel we spent the night at as we prepared to leave, around 9:00am. Overnight the rain had turned to snow, leaving everything covered with the white stuff.

Even though the ground was snow covered, the roadways were all fairly clear. We didn't encounter any major traffic issues that were weather related, so I guess we lucked out. We drove the wet roads throughout all of Kentucky and the northern part of Tennessee, where the snow was actually the heaviest.

Our Drive Through Kentucky & Tennessee

We encountered plenty of snow and fog during our drive south.

Thankfully the roads were well maintained, so we avoided any delays or other hassles.

The mountains sure are beautiful to look at when they are covered this way - it is very picturesque.

We didn't face any slippery conditions on the road, but some drivers weren't so lucky!

The trees here are apparently not used to the weight of all this snow. Several of them had broken off already, and countless many more were bending seriously.

Here are a couple more of the trees buckling under the weight of the snow on their backs.

Samantha, Tyler, and Jayden (Tinkerbell too) rode in the car without too much hassle, although they did get bored from time to time.

Another look at Sam and Tinkerbell, this time with Drew riding along happily.

This was the forward view for much of our time in the mountains. The fog could have been worse, and it was pretty, so no complaints out of us.

We managed to make it to Florida, sometime around 10:00pm. Although we would have preferred to make it here during daylight hours, at least the weather was decent. No coats, no hats, no gloves. No complaints!

We did have a flat tire on the trailer while we were driving through Florida, but I don't have any pictures of that. You can read the journal for all of the gory details from that particular ordeal.

Welcome to Florida!

Another attempt to get a picture of Tyler, Jay, Sam, Drew, and Tinkerbell in front of the Welcome to Florida sign.

Tyler is watching as Sam attempts to turn down the volume on Jay. Drew doesn't seem to be the least bit bothered by her incessant yapping, nor does Tinkerbell.
